The allowlist
When Jeremy's team built the Garbercoin allowlist in 2024 it had one rule: anybody who has ever eaten at a GarBBQ, worked a GarBBQ pit or signed a GarBBQ franchise agreement is in. That is a generous rule. It covers tens of thousands of people. It does not cover a man who has never set foot in one.
Scott emailed anyway. The reply, which Jeremy has read aloud on stage more than a hundred times, was one line: "Come eat first."
The second attempt
For BBQCoin, Scott created a new wallet under a different name and applied as "a backyard enthusiast." The application asked for your favorite wood. He wrote "mesquite." The team flagged it as suspicious on culinary grounds before they even checked the name.
Why it matters
It is a funny story and Jeremy tells it that way. But he also built a 45-minute keynote around it, because the allowlist is the first boundary he ever set with his brother that Scott could not talk his way across. "A boundary is a business decision," he says. "I just happened to put mine on a blockchain."
"He wouldn't invest in me when all I had was a garage. I'm not going to let him invest in me now that I have ten restaurants. Those are the same decision, made by two different brothers."Jeremy Garber, The Allowlist keynote
